Mildred the Crocklebog

Meet Mildred, a puppet commission I created last year for the Bewilderwood adventure park on behalf of Norwich Puppet Theatre. Based on the character by children’s author and park owner, Tom Blofeld, this crocodillian damsel is a fully articulated mouth and rod puppet.

Measuring nearly 2 meters long from snout to tail, the robustly built design features a lightweight skeletal core of foam, wood, plastic and aluminium construction that has been fully padded and skinned with a hand stitched, non-pilling fleece.

The additional skin texture and mane of soft spines have been created from felt and her teeth and claws are cast in a hard plastic. Her mouth is hand operated from an opening in her back, allowing the puppet to be performed at a height suitable for walkabout presentation and there is provision to attach the supplied control rod to the palm of either hand.
